East Orange Golf Course is a municipally owned, 18-hole gem in Short Hills, New Jersey, with a sporty, traditional feel. Originally laid out in 1926 by Tom Bendelow, the course was revitalized in 2015 by Stephen Kay, preserving its vintage charm while modernizing play. Nestled among mature trees near the Garden State Parkway and I-280, the tranquil par-70 layout measures 6,120 yards from the back tees and features three sets of tees from 4,725 to 5,687 yards, making it approachable for all skill levels. The unique features include two new holes added during the renovation, improved greens with a refined bentgrass surface, upgraded tees and bunkers, and a modern irrigation system. The course is notably flat with few hazards—no water holes and only a handful of sand traps—yet the elevated greens provide a modest challenge. Walkability is a plus, and opportunities to warm up abound on the driving range, chipping green, and putting green. A new clubhouse hosts a modest golf shop and restaurant.
